Eggs Up Grill, a breakfast and lunch restaurant chain, opened a new location at 112 Fleming St., Laurens, in the former Taste of Home restaurant.
Eggs Up Grill serves breakfast and lunch foods from the classics–eggs, bacon and waffles–to home-fry bowls. Some local favorites include the honey berry yogurt crunch, a choice of omelets and avocado toast and eggs.
Along with the fixed menu, Eggs Up Grill has a seasonal fall menu including meals like pumpkin cream pancakes and the turkey apple melt.
The restaurant is not busy itself, but many people order the catering online and get it delivered to their houses, so when I went, it was only me and the workers. I’ve been to Eggs Up Grill twice. Both times I got the Little Waffle in the Hen House, which includes a half Belgian waffle, two eggs and bacon or sausage, served hot and ready.
My favorite part about any breakfast meal is the bacon, so when I received my order the first time, I was surprised to find the bacon not quite cooked; however, I looked past that because they served chocolate milk. My server, though, did not seem quite fond of my asking for refills and instead offered me water, much to my dissatisfaction. Despite my opinionated server and my raw-looking bacon, I did enjoy my Belgian waffle, served with powdered sugar on top.
My second time there, I wanted to check for consistency, which the restaurant lacked. The location was again very intimate with just the workers and me there. This time around, my server was super nice and made sure I got exactly what I wanted while checking up on me numerous times during my visit.
I got the Little Waffle in the Hen House again, though I did not get the chocolate milk, because I didn’t know how she would take my asking for refills after my first time there. My bacon was up to par, thankfully, but I wasn’t able to finish my eggs; they were runny and unseasoned. I do believe they are supposed to cook without seasoning their food as they seem to cater towards an older tongue, but my scrambled eggs seemed a little not scrambled all the way.
However, my Belgian waffle was again quite delectable, and I noticed a cute little feature that their waffles say “Eggs Up Grill” in the middle.
All in all, Eggs Up Grill has an okay menu, but I think Waffle House is more my style. However, if students are looking for a quick bite before school without the worry of a busy environment, Eggs Up Grill is a decent option and is open 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. all week long.
