The air is turning crisp, the leaves are painting the sidewalks red and gold, and pumpkin spice is back on every menu. Fall arrives not just with cooler weather, but with the return of the most comforting flavors. While lattes might be most popular this season, there are many dishes and treats that are fan favorites as well. Students at LDHS have strong opinions about which dishes and treats truly capture autumn and the cooler weather. Some students prefer the classics such as pumpkin pie, while others enjoy savory foods like turkey or baked macaroni and cheese.
“Some of my favorite fall foods are turkey and stuffing. I don’t eat them all year round, so those foods are very special to me in the fall,” senior Randall Gibson said.
Students shared their seasonal favorites and revealed the many ways there are to taste autumn.
“One of my favorite foods to eat in the fall would have to be soul food; it’s so delicious and highly seasoned. I mean it’s just heavenly,” senior DeCoreyn Grant said.
“My favorite food during the fall would have to be the turkey; it is very delicious,” freshman Brandon Waddell said.
Savory foods are quite popular with students, but others seem to enjoy the sweets more.
“My favorite fall food is sweet potato pie because it’s sweet and you can eat it with ice cream and whipped cream, and it is all together good,” senior Jalen Bluford said.
Some people enjoy the nice baked desserts, and others seem to enjoy the quick sweet treats that remind them of the fall weather.
“My favorite fall food would probably be caramel apples. I really enjoyed them and used to eat them all the time when I was younger. I used to get one every year on Halloween,” junior Tristen Dickerson said.
The fall season means many different things to students and their taste buds. From hearty comfort foods to nostalgic treats, students show that fall flavors mean something different to everyone. Whether it’s a warm plate of soul food, a holiday turkey or a sticky caramel apple, these seasonal favorites prove that autumn is not just about the changing leaves or cool weather, it’s tasted in every bite.
